Our Story

Our Story:

BaBa Foods Co. LLC is owned by Jasdeep Saran and he is a current service member of the United States Air Force Reserve and a commercial airline pilot. The chutney recipe has been passed down for multiple generations from his mother's side of the family.

The Beginning:

While on a family trip to India in January of 2020, Jasdeep's mom made the tomato chutney to eat as a relish, and after trying it, he fell in love with the wonderful taste. After asking his mother more about how it is made, he realized that it is a healthy and natural food that can be used as a substitute for highly processed foods available back home in the US. After coming back to Seattle, Jasdeep asked his mom to make another batch of the chutney with locally sourced fresh ingredients and it tasted great. From there he pitched the idea to his mom about having his close friends try the chutney and see how they respond. The response was overwhelmingly positive! With Jasdeep's mother as a self-taught chef to cook the chutney, he decided to create BaBa Foods Co. LLC and launch BaBa's Tomato Chutney. The chutney is made from all organic ingredients and multiple ingredients are sourced from the Pacific Northwest.

Our Sustainability Promise:

Here at BaBa Foods Co. LLC, we source ingredients that are USDA Organic certified and salt without additives. Produce can be called organic if it’s certified to have grown on soil that had no prohibited substances applied for three years before harvest. Prohibited substances include most synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.

With our promise to be environmentally friendly, our chutney containers and lids can be recycled in some recycling programs. To reduce the use of paper, our manufacturing record keeping is all logged electronically.

Who's on the company logo?

It's our grandfather! We took this picture multiple years back one evening. There was no staging, studio lighting, fancy camera, or direction. We decided to enhance the original picture and used it for our company logo because it shows authenticity. This directly relates to our goals of being authentic and bringing you a genuine product that you can love!

What does BaBa mean?

Depending on where the person traces their roots to, baba means father, grandmother, grandfather, and baby. In our story, my father and his siblings used to call their grandfather, baba. The word baba shows a sign of respect in the Punjabi culture, which traces back to Northern India.
